Sometimes I have the most entertaining but random thoughts.
This morning as I was brushing my teeth, I decided that if I was a fairytale or enchanted character, I would be a tree nymph. I was informed yesterday that I admire and comment on trees a lot. Reflecting on that led me to my tree nymph conclusion.
A few months ago, I spent a few days mulling over what my Dr. Seuss name would be and finally settled upon Lolly Pop Top.
For some other more serious ponderings, I have been thinking a lot about the role of international human rights advocates. Here at the Kenya Human Rights Commission, I am working alongside incredible Kenyan leaders. They are extremely qualified, professional and far more effective than I could ever be in Kenya. So what is the most appropriate and effective role for me? How can I best support national leaders of change like my current colleagues? It is a question I am asking anyone and everyone. I always receive the answer that there is a very important role for international advocates because the world is so global now. But I want to know more specifically! Would it be most effective for me to work for the US government? A foundation like the Ford Foundation or Gates Foundation? I really don't know and probably won't know for a while. But I comfort myself by assuring myself that it is a sign of maturing and better to be asking these questions than not. :)
