Ninapenda Kenya

Translation: I like Kenya.

Nairobi is almost a mile high in altitude. I love it. I wake up to clouds every morning and crisp air. It always burns off to sun by the afternoon.

I am sitting at my desk at the Kenya Human Rights Commission. My entire morning was spent walking around and making conversation with all the staff. Kenyans are very social and greetings are important. Therefore it is far more crucial to talk to everyone and 'make friends' before starting any work. :) I have been using my Swahili and people are so excited to hear me speak it! I really don't know that much, so it probably just goes to show how few international interns make an attempt to learn the language. I have already challenged just about everyone I met to teach me a new Swahili word every day. They are happy to oblige!

I bring my laptop to my internship. The guy that helped me set up my internet at work is not actually an IT guy but rather an accountant that doubles as IT. Apparently non-profit organizations are the same across the board. :) He was very confused by my computer though because he had never seen a Mac before. We worked through it and he has now been introduced to the Apple world.

My apartment invested in a game of Uno so that we can host game nights. Not just any Uno though--batman Uno! And the only one at the store. Pretty great. More games to come hopefully.

I love that avocados only cost about 12 cents. And the tomatoes here are scrumptious.
