I went to pick up a package from Greyhound Express for an attorney in my office. Who knew that Greyhound doubled as UPS?
Two women were at the counter. At first they did not want to release the package to me.
Woman 1: Well, only the attorney name is on the package not the business name.
Woman 2: With our new policies we can't just give a package away to someone from the same office.
Me: I understand but would you like me to call and have them verify over the phone?
Woman 1: Well, they already did verify over the phone but still, how do we know?
more hemming and hawing over this matter
Woman 1: Well can I see your id anyway?
Me: sure
Woman 1: wow, you are really pretty. such a great picture and you look so pretty in real life too!
Woman 2: Yeah, I'm 6'2'' too so I notice other tall women.
Woman 1: Yeah, I always get her attention when any guy taller than her comes in here!
Woman 2: yeah, you do (rolling her eyes)
Me: Too bad being tall doesn't necessarily make a man good.
Woman 2: Most tall guys though are intimidated when they look a woman in an eye. What do you think about that? and you're so pretty too!
Me: um, well, if they are going to be intimidated, I don't want to be with them. So do I need to sign for the package?
Woman 2: oh yes, just right here.
Me: great, thanks
Both women: you have a great day!
So some paraphrasing may have occurred in re-telling this story. But how ridiculous is it that you can get away with things simply because someone perceives you to be attractive? I was moreso struck by this today simply because it was not men, but women, who made the exception for me today based on my looks.
The world is messed up. But do I take advantage of it at times? heck yes!
