Just after lunch, an attorney comes by my desk and asks for my help. I grab my pen and Franklin Covey and dutifully follow. When we pass his office I thought it was slightly odd but continue to answer his questions on the work I've been doing. He then says that it is a private matter and takes me out into the hallway. Now I'm starting to seriously worry and the fact that we are standing in front of the elevators is just plain weird. He proceeds to ask me how I feel about the quality of work. I'm telling myself to remain calm and respond that I feel good and have received good feedback. But when he asks me if I would be surprised or disappointed to hear that some people may be disappointed in my work, my heart just sank and I began stammering some answer while trying to remain 'professional.' I'm panicking and wondering why in the world this guy and not my supervisor is totally critiquing me! He then tells me to follow him and when I do, just around the corner is Jack! I was absolutely stunned. I was still so shaky from my 'your work sucks' experience, that all I could was stare with my mouth wide open. Jack had to hug me to bring me back to the real world.
He had flown out the night before and battled snow storms and closed airports to get to me on V-day! And he came armed with gifts! And no, he did not ask the attorney to freak me out like that. His idea was a harmless "package at the front" and this other guy ran with the 'scare Erin to death' idea. News of his surprise traveled around the office quickly. When I entered back into the intern area everyone already knew about it! I took the day off early. =)
I'm way tired but will fill in the rest of my weekend later. Garth also flew in the next day and I've been sightseeing so much I need to recover!
But, boy, was I surprised!

What is there to say except that Jack is a total star! Very classy. And yes, you'll have to come over for lunch or dinner when you're back. Let us know when you're free!
