Recap

I walked all the way to the pool in the freezing freezing cold only to discover that it was randomly closed for repairs today. LAME. I guess by walking there and back I got about 30 minutes of 'excercising' in. *sigh

I was also late to work today because the Metro was SO crowded. I tried getting on two different trains and each time just could not squeeze myself in the car.

But I'll talk about Sufjan and get in a better mood!

So about a week and a half ago, some of us brave interns survived the bitter cold and came out triumphant with free tickets. Teresa and I arrived at the Kennedy Center at 3:30 am and took our place in line as number 6oo respectively. People had been camped out since the previous morning! People were pretty uptight about cutting (which in the end was understandable!) but when Kelly arrived at 4:30 she was able to slip into line with us. We were pretty bundled up and even had blankets. But it was still miserable! At one point Teresa and I curled up on the cement ground and covered ourselves entirely with the blankets. I kind of drifted in and out of consciousness for about 2 hours. I never entirely fell asleep thanks to my frozen feet hurting me something awful! When I finally poked my head outside the blanket it was light out and the crowd/line had almost tripled. Around 7 am, Kristine (another intern slightly further ahead in line) and I stood in yet another line, this time for the bathroom. It took us an hour to actually make it inside the theater and given bathroom access. But the wait was worth the 15 minutes of warmth inside. Besides, what else did I have better to do? I was already waiting in another line!

As you can see, the fans camped out. We three girls were really excited when the line started moving around 8 am! We were among the fortunate first 1,000 or so to get two free tickets. The remaining almost 2,000 were turned away!
The day of the concert, I ended up with my second ticket still available. I couldn't find someone to give it away to, so I took a look on Craigs List. A lot of people had posted that day looking for ticket(s). I responded to a few and sold it to the first girl who got back to me. $25 plus a pecan bar. I felt kinda bad selling it since it did not seem in the "spirit" of Sufjan and the free concert. But then again, tickets were going for $100 so really it was a steal! And there is me with my huge pecan bar post-sale.

Target was a sponsor and went all out on a pre-
party. Chocolate fondue fountains, sweets, champaigny alchohol, etc. Pretty cool! Decked out with fancy Target advertising but with all the freebies I could almost ok the consumerism aspect.

The seats were amazing. First tier, first row! The ceiling of the opera house is beautiful, as you can see. The music was incredible. The show was only an hour long but I was hanging onto just about every note. The interaction between the orchestra and indie folk rockers was so cool. The built up wall of sound would dissipate to only Sufjan on the piano. Wow.
